The holidays are here and THE MAX Challenge wants to wish everyone a very happy holiday season. Although the holidays are a time of celebration, we can’t ignore the serious health concerns that come with consuming more food than usual and indulging in one too many cocktails. Research shows that the holidays are the time of year you’re most likely to put on weight.
Here’s the key pros and cons of stopping exercise whilst on holiday and some simple ways to keep moving whilst having some well-earned time off:
Pros
-
The biggest pro of taking some time from working out is that your body can have some downtime. If you spend a lot of time in the gym normally, or perhaps attend a few Classes during the week or go running each morning, your body deserves a rest and taking a Summer holiday is the perfect excuse.
-
Another huge pro to taking a break from exercise whilst you holiday is more psychological: giving yourself some much needed “me” time.
Cons
-
High blood pressure
-
Spike in blood sugar
-
Feeling puffed out
-
Slow metabolism
-
Fuzzy brain
Find the balance that works best for you
It's easy to see that there is no simple way to answer the question of "Should I work out on vacation or not?" There are strong points to both sides of the argument. At the end of the day, what's important is balancing your fitness needs with your mental desire for a relaxing holiday. With so many options for outdoor activities and even low-key exercise, it turns out that you don't really need to take a break at all. Changing your routine is often more than sufficient to give you the mental break from exercise you want. Nothing says you have to work out through the entirety of your holiday, either. There's certainly nothing wrong with taking a few days off to catch up on sleep, enjoy the local sights, and relax. Evaluate your fitness needs, consider your ability to self-motivate when it comes to physical activity, and judge for yourself. It's not hard to come up with a satisfying plan for holiday fitness!
That’s why THE MAX Challenge is here to help every single step of the way. THE MAX’s workouts are programmed for you, and instructors are present to make sure you’re executing the exercises correctly and motivating you until the final minute of class!
