How Long Do Wedding Bands Play?

Once you’ve booked the perfect live wedding band, its time to start outlining the schedule of events. When you include hair and makeup, photos, the ceremony, more photos, cocktail hour and reception, the entire day through night could be 8-12 hours. If you’re wondering where the live music fits in and how long they’ll play for, continue reading.

Band arrival time

Bands will normally arrive at your venue around 5:30-6pm, once your wedding breakfast and speeches are over. This will give them enough time to set up and do a sound check before they get onstage. A sound check will normally take around an hour but for larger bands it can take much longer.

Time they will they start performing

This depends on what you want them for! Of course, a band playing for your wedding ceremony will have to turn up much earlier than one just playing for your evening reception. Decide whether you want live music for both, if you want different acts, or if some speakers will suffice.

After the Ceremony

Once the ceremony is over, the cocktail hour band is set and ready to go. After the hour is up, the full band is ready to seamlessly transition to the reception. CTO’s Band will be on stage ready to play for at least three hours straight.
