How to set up a picnic table for any occasion?

Here's how to make a picnic table cover that will fit any table and occasion.

1. Choose your fabric.
A heavy-duty canvas or vinyl is best for protecting against weather and wear and tear. Lightweight cotton or polyester can be used for a more casual look.

2. Measure your table.
Picnic tables come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so it's important to get the measurements right before you start cutting your fabric. Use a tape measure to get the length and width of the tabletop, and then add 12 inches to each side for the overhang. For the height, measure from the ground to the top of the table, then add 6 inches for the skirt.

3. Cut your fabric.
Once you have your measurements, cut your fabric to size using a sharp pair of scissors. If you're using a patterned fabric, be sure to cut it with the design running horizontally so that it will stay straight when you attach it to the table.

4. Hem the edges.
To keep your fabric from fraying, hem the edges with a sewing machine or by hand with a needle and thread. 5. Attach the skirt.

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and stitch it together along the long side, then turn it right-side out. Next, gather the top edge of the skirt and attach it to the underside of the table with a few stitches.
