We think of springtime as that time of year where everything starts to bloom. In addition to the grass getting greener and the flowers starting to bloom, spring is also when we start to see more pests.
To prepare yourself for the approaching swarm, these are the most common spring insects to expect to see during spring:
1. Ants
If you have a backyard, or live near large patches of grass, anticipate the entryway of spring insects into your premises. These insects typically spend their winter season underground, allowing their larvae to develop. As soon as the warmer weather approaches, they may come out of the ground in large numbers.
2. Mosquitos
Mosquito bites can be quite irritating and very itchy. However, it is not just the itch you need to worry about; mosquito-derived diseases can make you, your family, and even your pets extremely sick. Spring is the time to start combating mosquitoes and reclaim your yard! Depending on seasonal temperatures, mosquito activity can last into October.
3. Bees and Wasps
You may be seeing a wasp, hornet or yellow jacket queen bee that may have stayed in your wall voids and attics during winter. Once they wake up, they will look for a place where they can lay eggs and establish their colonies. Do not let these insects stay in your home. Make sure to treat the areas you see coming in and out as soon as you can so that they will not be able to create a colony. Be careful when handling bees. Make sure to have these bees relocated and not eliminated since bees are essential insects.
4. Beetles
These insects, like bees, are a varied species. However, during the spring season, many variations are likely to appear. The ground beetle is the most common insect to make its presence known, and will always be on the hunt for local food sources. This usually means they'll be looking for your food, so act accordingly if they are in your household.
